In short: the export file you open is read only in your browser and is never uploaded. DataExportViewer sets no cookies and runs no analytics, ads or tracking. The site’s host, GitHub Pages, logs visitors’ IP addresses for security.

Your export file

A data export contains personal data — yours and, in messages or comments, other people’s. Every tool here works on your own device: the file you drop or choose is opened and read by JavaScript in your browser, a ZIP is unpacked with the browser’s own decompression, and the tables, the CSV file and the copied text are produced on the page and saved or copied straight to your device. Nothing is uploaded, stored or seen by DataExportViewer — there is no server that receives it. Once a page has loaded, it keeps working offline. When you close or reload the page, the browser discards what it read.

Links in the tables (for example to videos on TikTok, posts on Instagram or Facebook, or accounts on X) are the links written in your file; clicking one opens that site, which then applies its own privacy policy. When you use a Copy button, the text goes to your clipboard through the browser; what the program you paste into does with it is governed by that program.

No cookies, analytics, ads or tracking

• Fonts are served from dataexportviewer.com itself. The pages do not load Google Fonts or anything from third-party servers or CDNs, so opening a page contacts only the site’s host.

Hosting: GitHub Pages

DataExportViewer is hosted on GitHub Pages, a service of GitHub, Inc. Like any web server, it receives your IP address when your browser requests a page, and GitHub states that “when a GitHub Pages site is visited, the visitor’s IP address is logged and stored for security purposes” (GitHub Docs, Data collection). DataExportViewer does not receive or use those logs. GitHub’s handling of that data is described in the GitHub General Privacy Statement.

Contact through GitHub issues

Bug reports and suggestions are made as issues in a public repository on GitHub, linked from the contact page. An issue is public: anyone can read it, together with your GitHub username, and GitHub processes it under its own privacy statement. Do not put personal data into an issue, and never attach an export file — a description of the problem is enough.

Who runs DataExportViewer

DataExportViewer is run by an independent developer and is not affiliated with TikTok, ByteDance, Meta, X Corp or any other platform whose exports it reads. The way to reach the developer is on the contact page.

Your rights

DataExportViewer keeps no accounts, database or logs of its own, so it holds no personal data about you to access, correct or erase. Under the GDPR you also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the EU country where you live or work.

Changes

There are no ads or analytics today. If either is ever added, this page will be updated before it goes live, with the new date above.
